Vieques, Puerto Rico

After vacationing and sailing to this spectacular island countless times, we are embarking on a new adventure. Here we bought a hurricane damaged house with plans to renovate it into our tropical guesthouse.

Vieques is an island located just East of Puerto Rico. Andy first set foot there in 2011 while on a sailing trip. We fell in love with this special island after several vacations. There are so many reasons we keep coming back here. The people are awesome, the beaches are pristine, and it's a different kind of vacation/tourism. There are no stoplights, cruise ships, or high rises. There are wild horses, great restaurants, roaming dogs, and bioluminescent water!

Our new project house is located atop a hill in an area called Monte Carmelo. It is concrete and had a wooden roof before Hurricane Maria. She took off the roof and destroyed everything that was in the upstairs unit. There were tenants who survived the 190 MPH winds by staying in the downstairs unit!

We bought the house from a nice woman named Kathy who moved back to the states. She paid a contractor named Ben to put on a concrete roof and repair some the of the damage.  We met Ben while vacationing in April 2018 at Costa Brava in Vieques (our friend Andrew's place).  Ben told us about this property and we were immediately interested.  After 5 consecutive days of visiting the house, we instantly were in love and knew it was the perfect match.

Here's a"semi-complete" photo.  More to come!

Here is a pic from the first day exploring the property.
